Saeed Anwar, the talented cricketer, etched his name in history with an incredible stroke of luck. On that fateful day, he achieved something extraordinary—scoring 194 runs in a single innings. Let's delve into the serendipitous events that unfolded. May 21, 1997, marked a memorable day at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium. Anwar's masterful display caught the attention of spectators and pundits alike. Breaking a 13-year-old record set by Vivian Richards, he surpassed all expectations. However, it's essential to recognize the fortuitous circumstances that contributed to this remarkable feat. A closer look reveals that fortune played a significant role in Anwar's achievement. Examining the photograph of Anwar, we witness his exhaustion and wonder how he managed to accumulate such an impressive score. The answer lies in an unconventional turn of events—he had a stroke of luck. You see, Anwar was physically unfit, unable to endure the demanding conditions of the game. T

Shivnarine Chanderpaul : The lost LEGACY

Younger batsmen in the region needed an opportunity, and thus the panel thought fit that the veteran of 164 Tests should not be included in the training squad

A bloke you needed to crowbar away from the crease
SHIVNARINE CHANDERPAUL .

perfectly orthodox… provided the bowler delivers from next to the umpire at square-leg, not the one at the bowler’s end.
-Scyld Berry,on his unsual stance
  • This unusual “Crab Like” stance doesn’t speak volumes about his phenomenal career but this is just another thing about him which is missed in the cricketing fraternity.
  • 164 tests , 11867 runs at an average of 51 and having 30 test hundreds on his name in a career spanning over 22 years since his debut .
  • Similarly ODI career of 251 matches and a total of 8778 runs but he retired in 2011 in the ODIs after QF WC loss against the Aussies .
  • He had an uncanny knack of consistently playing a brilliant innings irrespective of the opponents or pitch .
  • One of the such fascinating knocks was a record run-chase against the Aussies in 2003 where West Indies scored a 418 in the fourth innings and Chanderpaul scored a century . 2003, a time when Aussies were at their very best .
  • Also many of you would not know that he is one of the best batsmen in overseas conditions or specifically Asian conditions .
  • He has an overall average of 52 against India in 15 innings with 2 centuries and an average of 41 against Sri Lanka in 8 innings.
  • Corollary to the above mentioned facts,in 25 tests against India,he scored 2178 runs at an average of 63.85 .
But Can you imagine how a lustrous career like this was ended by WICB (West Indies Cricket Board ) OR what they like to call it ?
Look at how chairman the chairman of the selection panel, Clive LLoyd addressed him and thrashed his hopes of getting a final match to rest his career with dignity .
Younger batsmen in the region needed an opportunity, and thus the panel thought fit that the veteran of 164 Tests should not be included in the training squad

I don’t know if a player of Chanderpaul’s status and class doesn’t deserve respect than who does in the West Indian team .
I think Brian Lara describes his ouster from the team better than anyone .
“The manner in which they (WICB) deal with their players is despicable and should no longer be tolerated.
This has absolutely nothing to do with runs or numbers. It has to do with respect and Chanderpaul has earned the right to say goodbye in an acceptable way.
In fact, he should be allowed to do it in his own way. He deserves it. The WICB and the Caribbean owe it to Shiv to send him off with dignity and respect. He has earned it.”
-Brian Lara

He resides within the hearts of West Indian cricket fans and no one can take it away from him .
Even though he did not get a farewell he deserved after earning immense respect over the span of 22 years, nobody can bury the records created and the test matches he saved for his country .

His consistency with this “crab like stance” will always remain one of the biggest mysteries of the cricketing world ever .
